Phytophthora Root Rot

Phytophthora Root Rot is a soil borne fungus that infects the root system of plants, preventing them from obtaining water and nutrients. The disease is hard to identify because it has no visible parts above ground. The first sign of Phytophthora is often wilting of leaves, loss of foliage in the upper canopy, or yellowing of leaves from lack of nutrients. The disease is found throughout Australia. The spores become active when there is heavy rainfall and warm weather. There have been many reports of infestations in the Dandenong Ranges.
